This department targets youth who have had some degree of primary and secondary education but could not proceed to tertiary level. The objective is to equip them with the necessary skills and qualifications to serve as secretaries or clerks in government offices, NGOs or other public institutions. The training lasts for a period of 24 months and ends with National Council for Technical Vocational and other Academic Awards (NCTVA) exams which grants the candidates a national diploma certificate in secretariat and office management studies.
The faculty is combined with Information and Communication Technology (ICT). YRA considers the successful enrollment in this faculty as automatic enrollment in the ICT training because a secretary in today’s office environment must have computer knowledge. Meanwhile, enrollment in the ICT training (alone) does not imply direct enrollment in the secretarial and office management faculty since the former is more robust than the latter and the training lasts longer. However, enrolling in either programme can help candidates develop confidence in themselves to undertake further tertiary studies while working in a business environment. An exceptional opportunity that the candidates stand to gain is the high-quality ICT training manual which is tailor-made to be taught only at YRA.
