This faculty benefits both illiterate and literate youths who are ambitious to earn their own daily breads. The trainees learn different types and methods of hair-styling and conditioning including the practical use of various styling gels and creams as well as manicuring and pedicuring. The training lasts between 16 to 24 months after which candidates are issued with officially recognized diploma certificates in beauty therapy and cosmetology. YRA believes that hairdressing is a very lucrative but far neglected profession in the Sierra Leonean society. Most Sierra Leonean women visit saloons at least twice a month and spend considerable amount of money on their hair. The men do the same. Wedding and birthday occasions require professional makeup artists and stylists, yet the profession is far neglected by many.
YRA’s objective is to render the profession the recognition it deserves so that the candidates can be happy to live with it for good. With donor supports, YRA intends to underpin graduates from this faculty to establish their own saloons and become self-reliant.
